In 1979, I decided to create a band out of whole cloth. Working with various musicians (Les July and Paul Miritello for two) through 1980, the line-up was settled on in late '80. With Paul C. McKasty on bass and Stuart Rifkin on drums, I decided to capitalize on the success of the Police and win the world as a trio calling ourselves the Mob. The early shows were decidedly mixed (our first gig was supposed to be at Max's Kansas City in Oct. '81, but the club closed in September). Instead our first gig became Trude Heller's which we followed the kick-ass Jon Paris band. Early in the band's life, Paul was great, Stu was good and I was still learning my craft.
"FIRST TO FIGHT" (4:03)
"I'VE GOT A HATCHET" (3:25)

By 1984, the band was clicking on all cylinders (guitarist Tim McKasty joined us on stage for various performances and we changed our name to Not The Mob), We started recording our debut album in January 1985, and concentrated on that project until the end of the year. While we were able to get the song "I've Got A Hatchet" onto dj's turntables in the Cat Club and Limelight, the band retired without playing another concert and grew into legend.
